Air National Guard

I know many of you are in the military or have served at some point and I am just looking for some insight, opinions, etc. I talked to a recruiter yesterday and visited toledo's air national guard base. My buddy is up there and he does weapons/weapons tech. I walked around and it looked like a pretty cool job was weapons load. The guys were working on the F-16's and the weapons, testing them etc. I would have to go to 6 weeks of basic then 16 weeks tech school and then 2-3 months of full time training at toledo. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Air National Guard, jobs, deployments, anything....thanks in advance

1st thing you have to accept " NOW" , before you join.

"You can be called to active duty at any time....."

If you are gonna cry about getting called to active duty and shipped
to a combat zone, don't join.

What he said x2. Look the military is not for everyone. It takes commitment and being able to tolerate what seems to the average person a measure of BS. But the system works and you can get a lot out of it. There is risk and a lot of rewards too. While the National Guard per se, I am not familiar with, I've spent the last 20+ years in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and have found it to be very rewarding in numerous ways. 1st is the knowledge and experience you receive. You will never be able to travel to the places you will otherwise get to by Uncle Sam. There is the esprit de corps as well.

Think about it hard and choose wisely. That path ends up being a different thing for everyone who goes down it. You'll get out of it what you put into it if you decide to go. Best of luck either way.

Any branch of the military would be a good idea. Your friend should be able to give some good advice too.

I think you should really consider it. The Guard is good place.

Good luck!

The Air Guard is awesome! I have been with the guard for the past 12 years. Joined after 4 years of active duty Air Force. Best decision I have ever made. It has paid for my education and helped me obtain some nice jobs. Not to mention the nice retirement check I will receive when I hit 60. I have deployed a few times and loved every minute of it. Don't get confused by what you see going on with the Army and Army National Guard deployments. The Air Guard is a completely differrent animal. If want more info, drop me an email with any questions you may have. I will be happy to answer.
