Is it against the rules to post pics of a legally owned firearm and suppressor?

I started a thread a few days ago about my new P22 pistol and a gemtech suppressor (including some pics). I tried to reply to it today only to find it is gone? I didn't receive a PM regarding the thread and I am now wondering if I broke some sort of rules???

I see pics of other firearms on here all the time...

Anyone know?

Here's a link to the previous thread, that doesn't work for me anymore...

It isn't against the rules but we would prefer not have it on here. I have no doubt that in your case you have the tax stamp and it is legal for you to own it, but there is no way for me to be certain of that.

If it starts a trend and others start posting stuff like that, at what point can I be certain that we are not promoting illegal behavior? So for that reason it has been removed and we would prefer not to travel down that road.

The reason you had not been notified is because frankly we were still tossing this back and forth in the Admin section trying to decide the best way to deal with it.

In your case it isn't illegal, but it is for those who don't have the sense to go the legal route if they want one. Since there are lots of forums available to you where you can discuss your toy with others that share the legal right to own them, we would feel better if you took it there.

Thanks for your consideration in this matter

I'm not sure how this would be any different than all the other posts regarding firearms.

Regardless, I was just curious as to why it was gone, no big deal.

Really surprised me also. Not the response I was expecting from this forum.

One thing I will mention so that perhaps it will better illustrate why we think this way. I am a licensed Gunsmith and I routinely get asked for information on how to buy or make an ILLEGAL silencer by people who have no intent of getting one legally.

Most people do not realize they can get one legally by pursuing the proper avenues, and yet when I tell them this, they still would prefer to do it the wrong way.

I don't help anyone in that pursuit because I happen to enjoy not living inside of a Federal prison. My decision may not make sense to many of you, but when you deal with it on a regular basis you tend to see things in a different light.

I understand what you are saying, as many people ask me why I didn't just make one as well. I also don't want to live inside a federal prison. I'm already a licensed gun dealer so the ATF has the right to show up at my house any day of the week already.

Since I can't talk about suppressors anymore, how much would you charge to put some 1/2x28 threads on the end of my Ruger 10/22? J/K

As I think you've already figured out, it's probably the fine line between a firearm that can be legally owned by any non-felon and a firearm that requires a specific license just to own. DTR doesn't restrict posting pictures of Hoss' Glock because he doesn't have to have a license just to own it. Try to post pictures of your legally licensed M60 and it's a bit different story.

Now, the difference between posting pictures of YOUR silencer or machine gun and posting pictures of ones from the 'net is a different fine line. Not sure how DTR determines whether it's yours or not except for your declaration. Can you post pictures of a silencer that you saw on the 'net and want to buy? Admins will decide.
