98 K1500 help

Anyone know if a 98 K1500 GMC (5.7L gasser) has an inertia or fuel shut-off switch and where it might be. My bosses truck failed to start this morning. I don;t here the pump run when the key is turned on. I checked all thee relater fuses but they were all OK. Probly needs a pump but Thought I'd cover all the basis and ask some experts.

It doesnt have one that I know of. You might try hitting the bottom of the tank though. I had a buddy, who needed a fuel pump but didn't have the money at the time. Sometimes the truck wouldn't start so he would crawl under the truck and hit the fuel tank in the center. Once the truck started it would run until you shut it off again.

If nothing else you might try it and see if it will work then.

them fuel pressure pumps are fun, if you need to replace it, make sure you do not go napa, the injectors are pressure pops, not enough pressure, they don't open, might get you around a few days, but trust me, you will be back at it and replacing it with a genuine pump and cussin a mean streak. I had a 96 with that 5.7 vortec and went down that very road.

There is a relay in the system also, it is under the hood, make sure it is switching and attempting to power the fuel pump. Hitting the fuel tank is excellent advice also, just make sure you have someone in the driver seat and the key in the off position, you crawl under the vehicle with a blunt object,(I use a large rubber mallet), then have them turn the key on while you strike the bottom of the tank. If the pump engages then it is most likely a bad pump.
As someone else stated, don't shop for the cheapest pump, you WILL wind up replacing it again, go with an A/C Delco pump they come complete with everything on them. Also get a new fuel filter and a couple 20 oz. bottles of Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner.

The A/C Delco pumps for that vehicle are about $350-400 dollars over the counter, unless you know someone that can get you the whole sale price.
Make sure you heavenly spray the ff lines with penetrating oil, they like to rust solid if the ff does'nt get changed out regularly.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. Tim

Thank Guys. I chad already checked all the fuses and relays before posting. The boss had it towed to his mechanic's shop while we were locked up for the night so I don't have to worry about it.
