91 Mercury Capri

Does anyone know anything about these cars? My uncle bought one that does not run. I put new wires and plugs and cap, rotor. I have checked the main fuse and its good. The problem is that it has no check eng light when you turn the key on. I dont know if it is a fuse problem or something else. The car cranks and has fuel to the motor. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I know someone that just purchased one in the Elkton area, convertible, white in color. Seems to run okay, low miles, overheats for some reason though.

Have you looked at the battery connections, grounds? Pulled a plug to see if you are getting spark?

No check engine light when you turn key on means the pcm is not powering up or has a fatal fault. Check all the fuses and relays, hopefully it is just a blown fuse.

every thing works power wise. windows, lights, etc. I have not pulled a plug because with no check eng light the motor is not going to run. anybody know if there is another fuse other than the one under the dash that says eng.?

on the older cars it takes alot to make the check engine light come on. I would check for spark. Mustangs and capris are known to have the coils go bad!

It does take more than just the Check engine light to come on, but on computer controlled vehicles the check engine light has to come on otherwise the ECM isn't powering up.

what do you mean it has to come on? If the coil is bad it isnt going to come on.

My son has an 87 white convertable.

My advice is take it to a Mazda dealer. It is mostly Mazda design, if my memory serves me correctly.

Is that true? When I turn the key on there is no check engine light. If the coil is bad that will keep it from comming on?

no im not saying it will keep the light from coming on, but the computer wont realize that the coil is bad. When you turn the key to start it does the motor turn over but not start or does it do nothing at all?

No it does not turn over by the key. I can jump the starter out and get it to crank. I thought it was the clutch switch but then I realized that there was no check eng light.
