Hey Guys,

Went and looked at a 70 Chevelle yesterday. The body is near perfect, Almost No Rust (the exterior is perfect, but the undercarriage and under the hood is starting to rust A LITTLE)

350 and an Auto, New Tires, the paint is good, but has some "cuts" in it at the very front of the hood (I have no idea what could have done this, looks like someone took a razorblade and just slice through the paint )

Interior will need redone in the future, but there isn't anything major wrong with it.

The guy was asking $8000, NOW lowered his price and is asking $6500. I'm really thinking about it.

Anyone have any thoughts. Stuff I should look especially careful at, things that go bad. I didn't check mileage, but does it matter?
Does the price seem fair?

I've always wanted a Chevelle, but would have liked a BB SS (can't afford those though). Now I've found one that I think will be a good proect car, just needs finished and a little work.

Let me hear what you think, I have no idea what these things go for.

I had that same thought at one time. I realy don't know why I'm thinking this hard, should be a no brainer. They don't make them anymore.

Only you know if it is worth that, since we haven't seen it. My advice is follow your heart, you only live once

 

I think your "razor blade" marks may be a paint problem from prior body work, I have seen this in mustangs in the rear quarter, Its not a real big deal, just something to be aware of.

As far as value, the real value adder lately in muscle cars are the factory options, ac, pw, etc. A highly optioned car will bring in better money. Just make sure its rust free and not just hidden rust. Rust is a real pain.

 

If it was an LS6, it would be worth $30,000+. Since it is not, does it have a Turbo 350 or 400 tranny? The 350 is quicker but the 400 is stonger. Look closely for rust. Not just on the surface, but inside the fenders, trunk lid and botton of the doors. They are prone for it. Make sure all the gauges work. They are expensive to replace. Anyway, good luck. I rebuilt a '69 Camaro SS and a '70 Chevelle SS years ago. I have since sold them and wish I didn't.

 

My friend has a 72 Chevelle for sale he wants 10 obo for it, it has a 400 small block, new turbo350 trans, new interior/stereo, new suspention, new exhuast, paint is good/race stripes

what BEHRMAN said...check the trans pan to see if it is a 400 or 350...400 is tough, but the TH350 can be built tough. 400 worth more cash. TH350's everywhere.

research the available options for that year. see if the car has any of the "special stuff"...then buy it regardless - JKE

 

If it's a 300HP 350, then you've got 4-bolt mains and small cc, 1.94" intake valves, "041" heads. The same basically as the Camel Bump heads on a 275HP 327 but they're drilled for alternator/PS pump. A great setup to get decent power out of.
I had a '68 SS396. Loved that car. Zero to jail in under 14 seconds.

 

I'm jealous. That's the exact car I want.

When I'm looking at new toys such as this I always run out and buy the latest auto trader or car trader to see what kind of prices other people are asking, it's easy to get a "feel" of what is out there and what people are asking for them...

2. how do I tell if it the 300hp 350ci or not?

I'm really glad a lot of people chimed in here, I'm almost clueless on some of this stuff. I'm trying to convince dad that I need it (Don't know why, I'm 19 and I'M writing the check , Oh well).

The guy who has it is a good customer of ours, so I don't think he is trying to unload a piece of junk on me, he just has more money than he knows what to do with, so he buys old cars, keeps 'em for a bit, then sells them for a bit more than he has in it. Lucky for me, huh.

Anyway, before I decide to buy it, I'm going to take a friend of mine with me to look it over again, and drive it to make sure everything is remotely tight. I know it could need a little work, but that's half the reason I want it.
