Evening all, DW made perogies today. GF cheese perogies for celiac niece and both meat and cheese perogies (2 types, not in one) for supper. No wonder I love her. Mmmmmm - food. Mmmmmm - 2 types of homemade perogies.

Morning all.

Made it into Mass yesterday around 1500. Poured rain with wind from Rochester NY all the way to Worcester MA. NOT a fun trip.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th:

1777 - The Battle of Saratoga was won by American soldiers during the Revolutionary War.

1796 - U.S. President Washington's farewell address was published.

1957 - The U.S. conducted its first underground nuclear test. The test took place in the Nevada desert.

1959 - Nikita Khruschev was not allowed to visit Disneyland due to security reasons. Khrushchev reacted angrily.

1960 - Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in New York to visit the United Nations, checked out of the Shelburne Hotel angrily after a dispute with the management.

1982 - Scott Fahlman became the first person to use :-) in an online message.

1983 - Lebanese army units defending Souk el-Gharb were supported in their effort by two U.S. Navy ships off Beirut.

1984 - China and Britain completed a draft agreement transferring Hong Kong from British to Chinese rule by 1997.

1986 - U.S. health officials announced that AZT, though an experimental drug, would be made available to AIDS patients.

1988 - Israel successfully launched the Horizon-I test satellite.

1990 - Iraq began confiscating foreign assets of countries that were imposing sanctions against the Iraqi government.

1994 - U.S. troops entered Haiti peacefully to enforce the return of exiled President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

1995 - The U.S. Senate passed a welfare overhaul bill.

1995 - The commander of American forces in Japan and the U.S. ambassador apologized for the rape of a schoolgirl committed by three U.S. servicemen.

2002 - In Ivory Coast, around 750 rebel soldiers attempted to overthrow the government. U.S. troops landed on September 25th to help move foreigners, including Americans, to safer areas.

2003 - It was reported that AOL Time Warner was going to drop "AOL" from its name and be known as Time Warner Inc. The company had announced its merger and name change on January 10, 2000.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you have sex with a prostitute against her will, is it considered rape or shoplifting?

Where's the coffee?

So it would seem. You're LATE! Thankfully, the boss hasn't been here yet so I didn't have to make an excuse for you.

44 to 62 degree days here. hubby went with his bro to test out a jet ski on the coldest finger lake (seneca). they had a blast. water was 50 in the sunny three foot area....brrrrrrrr. not done with summer yet. bought yet another harley- dealer called. price too good to ignore, bike is just what I like 05 springer looks like a '40s model with all new technology. repaired the california bike 113 cu inch; too much bike fer me. should be for sale soon.

Bark, check the key that holds the flywheel in time with the crank.

Scotty, glad to hear she's home and doing well! (In spite of your roll playing and your legs.)

No problem Shorts, you just need a little direction and lucky for you, I can help. I'll just mail you my Christmas list now.

Claude, nice to see you pop in.

Heidi, you've been lurking too much and not posting enough. If your behavior doesn't improve straight away you could be fined one dozen brownies, with nuts!

Evening all.

Evening all, we had our annual fire drill in our office tower today. It is a 35 story building and as usual it took us about 45 minutes to evacuate the building. I am the head fire warden for our floor and I got kind of angry today. I imagine you fire fighters will understand my anger. It is worth noting that this is NOT an announced drill and all we knew for certain at the time was that the alarms were on fast alarm which means immediate evacuation. The reason I got angry was that it took me 3 trips around the floor to get some people to leave and on the last trip we found 2 women hiding in the washroom waiting for us to leave so they could avoid walking down 27 stories. Are you kidding me?? Is it worth dying just because you assume it is a fire drill. After the third trip by me and the rest of the wardens you are on your own. I am NOT going to risk my life because you as stupid!!! At the same time, if the fire dept inspects the floor after I declare it clear and there are people there, we get a huge fine. Geeze people.

I know one of you has a signature that says 'It is my job to save your butt, not kiss it'. I by no means think that being a fire warden in a high rise is anything like being a fire fighter, but I sure felt like that signature today.
