Truck is stuck in the mud.

No recovery hooks upfront and front is only place to hook up to.

Is it ok to hook a chain or strap to the front axle and be pulled out?

It's not ideal...but if your careful and someone isn't just "yankin' the H out of it"...you should be fine.

What happened to your 2 front hooks? Surely you didn't put a replacement bumper on that has no hooks or pull points?
Good luck...I feel your pain. I've had to leave a past truck in the muck for two nights till we could get her out! SUX...

I have an 02, it did not come with hooks. I have the stock bumper.

Where can tow hooks be bought? Whats a fair price?

I did a quick search for tow hooks for an 02'...sux that they didn't offer them on that year. Looks like they started in 03'.
Regardless, looks like there are people that make them for about $150. Your just gonna have to shop around on the interent. Personally, (if you have the funds)...I would just look into getting a whole new replacement bumper. I figure this will give you a good excuse to spend the money 9especially if your gonna be off-roading on the reg).
Good luck brother getting her out. In your case i would just have someone with a good strap (not chain) hook you up on that front axle and just be real careful about easing it out of there. Don't know where your stuck, but i have found a back-hoe tractor to be the best for getting out (if you can get access to your truck with calling in a back-hoe.

unless your truck is different then my 98, and I thought that frame and body wise they were the same, then you could get oem hooks for a high price I'm sure. I have 2 identical trucks one with and one without hooks. The only difference is the one with hooks has what I think was called a "camper" package? it came with the roof lights, over head consul with temp and compass and overload springs. It also has tow hooks. careful with the axle. Thats one of my least favorite places. I've seen a few bent from recovery efforts

If my truck did not come with hooks, I'd be looking into making a mount on the side of the frame that I could install a hook on to for recovery... it would probably be the cheapest of options....
