mountains of virginia
i took my dually down near charlotteville? down in va back in early 2004. there were 2 jeep wranglers, 1 jeep cherokee, and a yota. i made it everywhere they went, except two trails cause they were way to narrow. i was slower than them, but they beat me down the othere side of the mountain and linked up with some other guys in tricked out jeeps. they asked my friends whats up, they said that "oh we are waiting on our friend coming down the mountain" from what my friends told me that those other guys down there nearly fell over when they saw my dually coming down the side of this mountain where in some places, the driverside outsided rear wheel was barely hanging over the edge of the trail. man was i puckered up. i did bust off the two front lugnut covers on that trip though. she did allright though.

I don't think that is the tribute to the superiority of dualies in off-road situation, but rather to the fact that government employees don't care what happens to those vehicles and abuse them like no private owner would.

Thats what I was getting at, nothing beats free transportaion with unlimited roadside assistance no matter how stuck down a gulch it is! Thos govt kids mess up some nice mo-chines!

There's two guys on the March TOM thread with lifted duallys on 37's....a blue one and a black one like mine. I'd love to do it to my truck, but then I'd have to get something different to tow the camper with.

My 04's not "set-up" for wheelin besides 6 mud terrains. Still went through alot of trails at the badlands in attica,In w/o any body damage. I would never build a dually for wheelin, been doin it since I was born with my dad so i've kinda seen what works through the years. Narrow, short, light, and powerful is always better than long, super wide, super heavy, and powerful.

They wheel better than most people think they can. A dually is not any wider than the original hummer. 4.10 gear and a five speed my dually will dang near idle up anything in 4hi. 4lo is to low most of the time.
This is not a great pic, only one person remembered to take a pic of me running through the mud and his camera has a crappy zoom. But yes the mud splashed higher than the stacks lol

Here is my truck that will be set up for some light wheeling. It isnt a dodge but it is a dually and it will soon get replacement bumpers, larger tires, and air lockers for the frnt and rear.

Are you guys running spacers on rears or letting the tires run together? Does the mtr tires make any difference in the wet saturated fields,my truck has street tread and took off(slid) down and into fencepost, I figured it was due to the weight and since there wasn't any ruts, I was just along for the ride.

I have 35's on my dually and I am running 2.5" spacers, 2" spacers would be plenty though. I don't do much off roading with it the width is the main problem, but the extra surface area on the ground from the 35's does keep it from sinking as badly as my 91' SRW. It also doen't do bad in certain mud holes because the wider trac keeps you out of most ruts and up where you can get traction, since most vehicles that make the ruts are narrower.
