46 fargo diesel offroader plans
Hey guys. I'm on the verge of starting my dream offroad/diesel truck. My dad bought a 46 Fargo a year or so ago really nice decent vehicle.
It's a 3/4 ton truck with 10 pack rear leaf springs, It's complete front to rear except for proper bumpers, was bought with an old chrysler combine flathead 6 with a I believe 3 speed manual transmission.
I have quite a few major changes to happen to this truck. I'm first planning on installing a 5.9L CTD in it with a 6 speed manual and (hopefully) a doubler and a NP205. this all connected to Dana 60 axles.
But first I will be installing a 4 link suspension front and rear with air bags. So I'll be building a set of mockup Dana 60's so that I can put my parts in the proper position and test it all out.(I'll be building exact dimension replicas of the axles out of steel tubing and mild steel) Once his is all done I'll pick up a salvage title dodge truck with a 5.9 and the axles and sell whatever transmission and all the extra parts to pay for my 6 speed and doubler.
I'm hoping to be able to set this truck up for two purposes hualing and wheeling, so I'm thinking the best way to do this will be to have two sets of interchangable parts, I'm thinking for everyday driving/hauling I'll have a set of bags, shocks, tires, that will set the truck about a foot and a half(at the lowest frame point) to the ground, something like 30" tires rated for hauling a decently heavy load.
Then for wheeling I'll have a set of bags, shocks and tires that will set the truck hopefully around 3 feet tall from the ground with a set of tires about 36" tall.
Suggestions or opinions?

Sounds like a good project but why the dana 60? Iv ruined a dana 70 onroad with my 33's I couldnt amgaince taking a dana 60 offroad with big tires and the tourque of a cummins. Id be looking for a dana 80 for the back. Other than that sounds awsome, I love the older trucks. Iv been keeping my eyes open for an older dodge m37 to do a 5.9 swap on

I just figured I'd use the axles from the truck I found who knows maybe I'll find a decent priced 1 ton and I'll have a 70 and an 80 instead. I can't wait to start building this truck I'm going to take measurements hopefully before the snow lands and I can start designing and building my suspension.
