Another screwy law on the books.

The only thing I can think of that would have only a rear plate, would be some type of machinry that has to be on the public roads.

That hasn't been put in effect yet. I asked about 6 months ago and the DMV said they didn't know when it was going into effect.

As far as the 4x4 parts talked about earlier, there is a little shop in Plano called expert offroad that has really good people and good prices.

Get this....in MO....Comerical Vehc are required to have a plate only in the Fnt....no rear plate. Took me a while to get used to seeing trucks with no rear plate. The only thing i can think of is they figure they will be pulling a trailer most of the time.....

That surprized me too, when I went up there for a visit a while back. Only one plate and on the front.

But I saw vehicles NOT pulling a trailer with no plate on the rear. Looked kinda weird.

That's not what it says above, Section B
Says MAY operate with both plates....not must!

There was a movement a few yrs ago when many were going w/o front plates. They seemed to think it was legal. Never heard any follow up??

I know Rhode Island issues plates to the Person. And they go in nurmerical order. Its a big deal apparently to have some of the first plates...you can sell your plate to someone else and people pay thousands to have one of the first plates...even will them when they die so they stay in the family.....interesting to say the least

RJ and Brian,

I really don't know what to say. It fries my brain sitting here reading all this legal mumbo jumbo....

This is not something we look at very commonly. As far as I know you still have to have 2 plates in Texas and I don't recall anything to contrary. We would get some kind of a legal bulletin about it if we couldn't write a citation for it. (Some) officers write that ticket all the time. I guess I could make a phone call to the local tax assessor's office. They issued me 2 plates when I registered my truck and I keep two plates on it. I never really questioned it before. Here is the law as far as I know regarding this issue.

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have
been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a passenger car or
commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license
plates for the registration period, that does not properly display
the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes
that the license plates have been validated for the period.
(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a road tractor,
motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license
plate, attached to the rear of the vehicle, that has been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer
operating a vehicle as provided by law.
(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

Mike, you sure have been quiet on the SSSSS thread. I tried to answer the questions or cover the bases as best I can. But I think you may could add some clarification on a couple of things. It's kinda falling off active thread list. I don't know what else to say in it.

Trucks feels great! I have probably put 100 miles or so on it...but mostly highway.

Eh.. Was a good idea anyway!! Hate dang front plates! Been still driving the yota around all week without one... (Dunno where it's at?? )

Ordered an Amsoil dual bypass system last night.. just under $200 buck on the preferred customer whatever plan.... Realy looks like a pretty cool system! Hopefully between it and some goood oil from a friend of mine I can extend drain intervals a little (or a lot) and keep the engine very very happy!

You'll get to see how Dan installed his.
Anyone been following his post on front axles? I'm real interested to see how much dirt/debris gets in the front axles. Did not realize they had no gear lube in the outer axles housings. If it's a lot (in Ryan's 01) Charlie's ought to be growing mushrooms by now!
