A couple years back I upgraded my 2001 steering to the 4th gen t-type. Everything I read at the time indicated that changing the pitman arm was not necessary. It's always been drivable, but just "not right" as the steering will become so stiff after about 1/2 turn the wheel no longer turns. This only happens when sitting still, when rolling it seems to operate normally. Recently, I've been troubleshooting and come to the conclusion that the pitman arm may be causing some binding due to the angle of the drag link. Below is a link to a picture of the 2nd gen y-type pitman arm vs. a 4th gen t-type pitman arm. The geometry is clearly different, but my sector shaft is smaller than the 4th gen. My question is, when converting your pickup to the t-type, did you change the pitman arm? If so, do you have a part number? I'm seeing varying information on the more recent threads.
