Larry, I talked to Goerend and they say they're not building transmissions right now. They're just selling components or rebuilding your old one. Do you think I should have them rebuild my old one or just go somewhere else to get a new one? Give me a call 740-876-1154.

I would get a good one and be done with it as many others have tried to go the cheaper route and everyone of them I know has had to replace it again and again until they got a good one and it ended up costing them more in the long run so I took it as a lesson learned.

I would get a hold of Tim at TRE Diesel if your back in Virginia and just have him rebuild it. I think he is like $3000 installed. I wouldn't mess with with any other transmissions built by unreputable people as these diesel trucks are natorious for destroying transmissions. Even reputable gas and race transmission builders have a hard time building a transmission that will hold up behind a Cummins. I just replaced mine with a Georend but my first choice would have been Tim if I could have gotten it to him because of his prices. My transmission cost about $5600 with a billet flex plate and input shaft as that is what they recommended. The output shaft then becomes the weak link and can be changed in the truck easily. For what its worth it was my flex plate that broke but I was almost out of adjustment on the bands so I replaced the whole thing since I had the transmission out and it was about done anyway.

Are you running the campground now?

Hey, I need some advice. I need to get a new transmission for the truck and can't really afford the $4000 minimum for a nice one. What do you think about the kind you would buy from Autozone for $2500. Will it at least be as good as the factory transmission? And should I replace the torque converter, too?

Larry! Did you retire? I was trying to get a hold of you a few months ago and couldn't find you. I'm headed back to VA, with four kids this time. I'm going to the FORWARD to be the ETC there.
