No welder?

I know that Mark (biggerkin) is a welder. But i'm not sure if he can TIG aluminum .
Look for a small welding shop close by.

You don't need a tig for aluminum. All you need is a spool gun for a mig welder. I've welded aluminum before this was and it works great, just as long as you have at least .100" thick material.

What do you need welded. Are you ever in Slower Lower DE?

I have a tool box in My truck I want to make a fuel tank out of it. The top part is 6" tall and the bottom is 24" tall by the size of the bed. I just need one line all around the tool box and a few other spots. I have a MIG welder but very little experience welding and this must be well done with no pin holes since I want to put diesel in it.

Haven't found any shops yet but one, is $108/hour ok?

Thank You.

hey bud, i see you are looking for a welder, and you live in rockville..we have a excellent welder at work in germantown, i will ask him monday if he is intrested in doing it on the side and i will get back to you..as far as the cost go's that is between you and him, i'm NOT invollved in that part..i'll get back on here monday evening and let you know....

Most aluminum tool boxes i've seen would be too thin a material for my liking to haul diesel down the highway. Not to mention DOT would be all over you if you were pulled over for anything being that the tank in your truck is not designed for fuel transfer and not Underwriters Laboratory approved. Also I believe you are not supposed to carry over 100 gallons without proper placards and endorsements. Im sure a fullsize toolbox would hold well over 100 gallons. Not knocking your idea - just some food for thought. Also i know several places manufacture toolbox/fuel tank combos if that's what you really want. Check Northern Tool.

Well maybe I didn't explain it right. I have the tank, it is approved and it is made to put fuel in it, I want to put it inside My tool box which is almost the same size. As far as gallons, this thing is about 55US gallons so I won't brake any law there.

With this tank there isn't much welding compared to the modifications I'll have to do to the toolbox to fit it inside it.

If You have the # for the welder that'll be great, I do have a MIG welder but I rather let someone else with more experience do it, I don't have a spool gun so maybe the money that I spend on one is more than what I would spend on the project alone but it doesn't hurt to know how You did it.

Thank You.

That's ok, thank You anyway for trying. I got the tank inside the tool box today and contrary to what I thought it didn't leak so all worked out just fine.
