Aux Fuel Tank or Storage tank?
I've been thinking about either adding a Aux Fuel tank or having a storage tank at my place so I can fill up when diesel is cheaper. I've been looking for big rig tanks, like between 50 and 100 gallons but can't seem to find them.
What suggestions do yall have? Thanks! Rick |
For approx $800 you can do a 75gal transfer tank and carry it with you.....

I would call Carroll Fuel and see what kind of price they have for diesel. At work they give us a free 500 gallon tank with pump just for buying fuel from them. And fuel is cheaper from them vs at the pump. I am not sure how much fuel you run through, but it could not hurt to give them a call. If I had a place to put a tank (once the free fuel from work runs out :) ) I would have them bring me a tank and only call in a fill when needed. I know that currently a fill for us is running around $1200 or so, but keep in mind that is for 450-500 gallons, that is approximately 13 tanks of fuel in your truck, at my useage that is a few months at mininum. Just my .02

there is a place in frostburg that has a in bed tank (i believe to be 100 gal) with a hand crank pump for i wanna say $450. if youre interested i can go up there and take a pic and get the exact price and size. its metal, painted, and seems to be pretty good quality.

You can go to TSC (Tractor Supply Company) they have one for around 400 or so it's a 75 gallon kind with a tool box on top also. Don't know if they have one up your way but there is one in Waldorf in southern maryland also I believe you can order it off the net from them. They were the cheapest that I have seen around.
My Grandpa got one and we tapped into the vent tude and did a gravity feed from the aux tank. When has fuel gauge started to move he knew he needed to fill up. He always tried to be in Georgia to fill up so the bill didn't hurt so darn much!!! |
Thats a pretty good savings....I'll have to look into this....

As far as one with a tool box etc....I'm not looking for a permanent one. Right now I have a 55 ga drum full of fuel and I'm working on a eletric transfer pump. What I'd mainly do is use a tank for traveling distances and when I got back home, I'd pull it back out. I really dont want to carry alot of extra weight unless its needed or its worth saving money by not buying diesel.... Rick |
Rick Northern tool has this pump you could use.
