Potential 1st time diesel owner

Hey everyone, Eric here. I'm considering buying my first diesel, it is a 2017 Cummins Dodge. I will probably catch hell, but oh well. I don't tow a toy hauler, 5th wheel, or any trailer. I am only considering this truck for longevity of the engine, and for use when going on vacations. Other than that, it will be mostly for work and back, and day to day use. Am I going to possibly make a good choice, or should I stick to a gas vehicle. Thanks I advance for any info.

I would say you left more questions open than you can get answers for. Do your own math but it's not likely to pencil out in your favor buying a new 3/4 or 1 ton new diesel versus buying a 1/2 ton gas model. It doesn't sound from your brief statement that you need anything more than a half ton truck if your not towing or hauling anything. The gasoline truck engines of today often will outlast the trucks that they are in today if you live in the rust belt, so why spend 25 or 30k more for the diesel version.
