Greetings and two questions: starting & crankshaft position sensor

Greetings from Truckee CA,

While I have plenty to add to the list, I arrive here with two questions all of a sudden.

1) After replacing all 4 battery cables, and having a confirmed strong pair of batteries and a good alternator, my 1998 Ram 2500 4wd now won't start at all. All lights are bright. There is an interesting clicking near the interior fuse box but no fuses blown. All connections are solid, and after triple and quadruple checking everything, all is connected properly. I have checked engine compartment fuses - fine. Turning the key gets no crank, just a couple clicks (no sparking anywhere). Baffled... If something's shorted, what? I am not seeing anything.

2) Is a crankshaft position sensor interchangeable on a 24 valve made years 1998.5 to 2002?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum. You may get more answers in the help section of the forum. In regards to the non-starting did you check all conections to the starter or the cylonoid?

Re Weird Starting Issue

Yeah, checked everything. The clicking I hear is audible in the blue relay in the fuse panel on the driver's side in the side of the dash (not under the hood in that fuse box). I am going to look at the starter some more.... Thanks!

check the small wire that runs along side the big bat cable it's in the protective covering. It should clip into a connector on the battery tray. that is what kicks in the starter.
The CPS is behind the starter on the side of the block.
