I bought a 94 dolphin w/64000 mi. on an Oshkosh frame w/ 290 turbo cummins
w/ 6spd allison auto. I am wondering what I have in expecting performance and durability. The owners swore they got 12mpg at 65 mph.
The motorhome looks new, I could not find any oil leaks on or under engine and trans.
I could not pass it up but I would also like to here from some 290 owners.

That would be an 8.3 liter C series Cummins, a different engine than the 5.9 liter B series in the Dodge pickups. There are some similarities, like the fuel system, but everything is on a larger scale. They are pretty tough engines, there are some problems with timing cases cracking but overall a solid engine.

If it's geared right and the tires are fully inflated I could see 12 mpg @ 65 as long as you're not bucking a headwind or a strong crosswind.
