I reconnected the batteries and they have plenty of juice now for some reason. However the truck still wont start, and Im getting CAN ERROR #122.-Wrong Communication.

Is this fixable?

Everything is fixable, just need to diagnose it.

Still sounds like ECM troubles to me. Did you unhook the main amp power from the battery for now?

I have disconnected my car alarm and sound system from the batteries, but I did leave the batteries connected all last night and all day today with no changes.

I called my local dealership and told them the problem. The first person asked me to start it and drive it in and then admitted they didn't know enough, so they put put another person on. The second person also told me to drive it in, then I repeated that the truck wont start and they told me to ask someone to jumpstart it.(after clearly explaining twice that the battery was not dead) lol. Then when I told them about the CAN Error #122 they said that it doesnt exist, that there is no such thing only 4-digit codes exists.
Then they confessed to me that they had been charging me for oil changes even though I have a maintenance plan thats supposed to cover those charges.

These conversations are the ones that make you feel confident that your truck is being taken care of properly. lol.

Anyway thats the update, and I cant find anything in the service manual so far..

Thanx for reading on...

I had the truck towed to a good local shop (not dealer) and they said that the diagnostic machine couldnt read anything off the ecm. They think its fried. Its a terrible thing to find out but Im gonna do more research before I take any action for replacing a costly ecm.

Man, that would suck.

I've done a lot of things to my truck (with batteries connected). Including welding on it, never had any ecm issues though.

Hope you figure it out.

thanx

I read somewhere that a guy with a 2003 had a similar issue. His truck wouldnt start but would try to, and it turns out that weak batteries can have enough voltage for the starter to turn over but not enough for the ecm to turn on and send fuel through injectors. Basically, weak/damaged batts may not have enough juice for the starter and ecm at the same time. The mechanic told me my batteries had some internal damage and needed to be replaced, so today I bought 2 optima red tops and Im gonna put them in first thing in the morning and try to start her up. If this doesnt work its off to the dealer I go. (lets really hope i dont have to go to the dealer).

wish me luck!

thanx

Electrical gremlins can be the WORST thing to deal with.

I spoke with the dealer this morning. ECM is not fried! woo!

The negative battery cable on the driver side and the negative grounding cable from ECM had some unrepairable corrosion. Possibly from the bad battery.

Because the ECM couldnt ground properly it wasnt turning on. Also, the ECM went blank due to this and needs to be reflashed.

Well Im supposed to get the truck back tomorrow, so I will follow up here again.

Thanx for reading along..(i wanted to document the whole thing just in case someone else has a similar issue)

Well I got the truck back and I think the dealer was making things up. The negative battery cable for what I saw looked fine, and they said that the fan clutch sensor had shorted out some how. They ended up replacing the battery cable as well as the fan clutch sensor. They told me I was lucky the sensor is under warranty because it requires lots of labor to replace including removing radiator assembly and all that, I saw no signs of this being done. They also said that they had to reflash the truck because it was wiped out due to ecm not grounding for a couple days...? Well as soon as I got on the road, I felt the smarty programming on there (connected smarty to verify) so I know they lied about that. So they lied about having to remove the whole radiator assembly to replace sensor, and about the negative battery cable, and about having to reflash the truck. I decided not to confront them about their lies because they covered everything (repairs, towing) except for about $100 that I had to pay, and because the guy at the counter whispered to me that I had things on the truck which would easily void warranty but he would turn a blind eye.
