Unusual Noise

Yesterday I noticed a noise in my 94, 4 x 4 5 speed like a wheel bearing was grinding. The truck felt as thought it had something draging while driving. Drove it today and had no problem until later in the afternoon when I heard the noise again. It seems to come and go. But when I hear the noise it feels like the truck is loosing power just a little or their is some type of drag????? Other than the noise yesterday and today, the truck runs excellent.

Thanks....

Dave

Dave, have you checked the obvious things?
brake caliper not releasing... Ebrake dragging?
Those would be the first things to look at if you can feel a grinding and a drag type sensation....

Rule out the front brake calipers first. If that does not solve the problem, check your front wheel bearings, then the rear driveshaft (front section) carrier bearing.

Situations like this are when an infrared temperature gun is excellent. Most noises produce heat. After a drive take the temperature of suspected problem areas and compare them to the same component on the other side.

Thanks for all the replys gentlemen. I know the noise is not coming from brakes, drive lines or bearings. All those things checked out. I will wait for the noise to surface again or the truck to break down.
