Turned off truck now won't start
Turned off truck now won't start
I have an 01 2500 auto. My truck was running fine when I turned it off the other night and the next morning it would not start, just turned over like not getting any fuel. Turn key method popped three codes, 1689-no communication between IP and ECM, 0230-fuel pump primary circuit malfunction and 0522-engine oil sensor input below min accp voltage.
Question 1, is my vp44 dead? I checked relay and vp44 is getting 12.54 vdc but only oozes fuel when I loosened injector line. Lift pump is supplying fuel to vp44.
Question 2, what causes the loss of comms between the IP and ECM? Is the computer on the IP bad or is the ECM bad?
I am going to get it scanned tommorrow to see if anything else pops up.
Any help would be great.

I would say it might be dead. P0216 is usually the "vp44 dead" code. Has anything happens prior to this event? Any smoking, sudden power losses, etc.? If there was nothing before your truck died, I would look for a loose connection somewhere in the engine compartment.
Lift pump replaced 12k ago. Improper fuel gauge reading and ran out of fuel 1k ago. Checked all wireing and could not find anything wrong. Before engine quit, there was a slight spongy feeling in the power every now and then, other than that ran strong. Just all of the sudden decides not to start.
Hmmm, i would say that the IP bought the farm. That thing is designed to inject fuel at 4000 psi. You should get a decent squirt when you crack the lines.
As for question 2 I am really not that knowledgeable on the internal working of the VP44. The is some circuitry in the pump but I don't know what exactly gets fried.
I you are still in warranty I would highly reccomend you bring it too the dealer. It may be a bit of a hassle to get them to replace the pump but it will be worth it.

Our trucks don't have it I believe. Some guys have had the sending unit fail and all that happened is the truck chimed and lit up the CHECK GUAGES light.
