Truck won't go into gear

Hello, I let a buddy drive my truck today during lunch. He engaged 4x4 a couple of times during the drive (wet pavement) and then switched back to 2wd before parking the truck at his house for lunch. On the return trip, he could not get the truck to go into gear. The 4wd light is off and the front drive shaft spins freely. However, the rear shaft is locked up. Also, we cannot get the t-case shifter to shift into 4lo or neutral. Any ideas?

We even jacked up the rear to see if the rear axle might have been in a bind. It will creep in R or D for a foot and then it locks up. Trans fluid level is fine. If nobody has any ideas, any advice on a good shop that I could take it to? The truck is at my buddy's house in North Houston around the Spring area.

After reading your first post I was going to say to do what you put in your 2nd post. It must have gotten in a bad bind. Driving on pavement in 4wd is not the best thing to do . You could take the rear drive shaft off also and see if the rear wheels spin freely.

Thanks, we'll try that this weekend. This might be a stupid question, but can these trucks be driven in front wheel drive?

it's the t-case

Just an update, we took the pto adapter cover off the t-case and and when the fluid drained out, we found lots of metal chunks . We looked inside some more and found a loose snap ring as well. The t-case is now in the trunk of my car I'm going to clean it up and start tearing it apart to see what needs to be replaced. Anyone know where to buy parts for the 241HDH? Also where can i find a deal on a rebuilt or used case?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Go find your off road counterparts. They have sources for these parts at good prices. Stop someone with a jacked up jeep and he can tell you.
