Transmisson removal
 

What tools (special) do I need to remove the transmission form my truck? 99 cummins 5 speed.
The manual mentions a puller for the shifter extension, is this really necessary?

We just pulled mine at Forest City Diesel week before last. The shifter comes right out the top of the trans once you have all the plastic junk out of the way. Make sure you shift it into neutral before pulling the shifter out.
Other than a heavy duty transmission jack, I don't remember anything special. A big long extension to get the bell housing bolts out. We pulled the transfer case off the back to lighten the load a little.
