Took p-pump off and now won't run??
OK, working on a guys truck that he brought to me that he started to rip apart and gave up.. Well, had to change the push rod gasket along the block.. Pulled it all apart, put new cover back on and reinstalled everything.. Timed the motor by lining up the push pin, timed the pump by roating it until the plastic dowl deal alighned just right.. Then installed the pump, snugged it all down.. Flipped allighnment platic pin around in the pump.. Left the alighnment pin still in the gear for the motor.. Torqued the nut on the pump down.. Then released the timing pin on the motor.. The reason I flipped the pin on the pump before I final torqued it was because I was told sometimes the pum will turn just a bit and snap the plastic deal..
Ok, then bled the whole deal off real good, she fires up barely with my foot to the floor, chug o lugs then dies.. It seems liking timing.. But I just double checked it by the way I was told and it all checks out.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks.. Oh I have fuel squrtin good when the injector lines are cracked.. |
Sounds like the pump is out of time or there is a fuel restriction.
Have you tried re-timing the pump? Do you get a little gray smoke out the exhaust? Sorry...I don't have documentation for the p-pump motors, just going off VW diesel timing issues. Tony |
DNR, don't forget, the timing pin could have been damaged before you got to it. I would use the plunger method to verify.
If you have fuel to the injectors, at the right time, she will run. |
There is a plug on the lower drivers side of the pump , you pull that & inside is a timing tool , pull out & stick in backwards [ when pump is at factory spec ] it slides in , then with pump mounted , use the plastic pin you used to see if the gear is in the correct [ factory ] spot .

I would do the plunger lift method for timing.
