swaped auto for 5sp

I have 99 3500 diesel, that I removed the automatic and put in a NV4500 5sp. I need to know how to make my cruise control work and turn off my check engine light. THE wiring harness going to the tranmission has two different connectors, neither connector will plug in. The 5 sp. has a three prong connector, and the automatic has a two prong connector, and the other which has approx. 6 prongs has know where to plug into... speed O works, but cruise doesn't... Please Help Thanks...

Jim Davis,

Sorry I don’t have any advice on your problem but I was curious how much it cost to do the swap? That’s the only complaint I have about my truck.

All the Chrysler gas engined trucks use a different PCM for a manual than for an automatic. I would bet that you will find that the PCM is a different unit. A while back I referenced putting a '98 318 into a Dakota with a v6 manual. The automatic PCM fromt he 318 would not work with the manual truck. There was also a wiring harness difference. If you look into this it probably is why the check engine light is on. On the gas engine the wrong PCM will put the engine in limp mode.

The PCM is definitely different on a manual truck. The Cummins ECM may be different too, but I don't think it will cause you any trouble. Your PCM is looking for an electronic governor speed signal, as well as pressure and temp data, which is why it kicked on the light.
