Starter or Battery ??

Have had a few incidents when starting my truck, have had a clicking sound when trying to start...when jumping the truck, it starts but doesn't want to stay running...eventually stays running....battery is old, but wondering if it's starter soleniod??[duhhh]

Starter contacts, more than likely. Larry B's will fix you right up. http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

This is what bad ones look like.

Measure the voltage in your batteries in the morning, before you start the truck. Lower than 12.3V and you need to replace both of them.

Please fill out your signature so we know what truck you have.

hmmmm

was planning on bringing the truck to Sears this morning to see what they say...since they test the battery and the starter components. My truck is a Dodge Ram 2500 year 2000

I agree with geico266, The contacts are easy to replace and cost ALOT less than new starter, Usually if your stater wont turn over tap it with a hammer, then turn the key and she should fire right up, it works almost everytime. good luck

I agree with this,BUT dont always assume the batts are bad if voltage is below 12.3 volts after sitting all night.More often than not Parasitic draw problems can do the same thing. If you disconnect the batts at night, reconnect in the am,and still have 12.3 or less, you need new batts. So many times ive seen guys puti n new batts, only to have the same problem,it turned out there glovebox light wasnt going out,or there remote starter was drawing half an amp or a stuck relay,etc......
