Stalling problem with 98 12 valve TCD
Stalling problem with 98 12 valve TCD
Hey what up, new to the board and have a challenging problem. I have used the search engine to inquire about this problem and have come up with absolutly NO answers.
First off a little back ground: 98 TCD 4x4, auto, 100% stock, recently purchased used with 90k.
Problem: Lets say when I pull up to a complete stop or even at the pump and I just tap the throttle to adjust position. The engine comes off idle and jumps up to say 1500rpm and then it stalls. It doesnt go back to base idle. This problem happends, loaded or unloaded, cold or at operating temperature. Any ideas?
Idle in gear, a/c off, approx 650 RPM; a/c on right at 600 RPM. Idle in neutral, 650-675.......no codes so far.
Let me know if you need any more info. Thanks for any input.

Re:Stalling problem with 98 12 valve TCD
Sparky, your problem is probably the throttle cable fraying. There is a dealer recall on the cable.

If the cable is OK, then adjust the idle up, as you should be at about 800-850 in gear with the AC on ( I forget if you are auto or not.)
george
