They replaced the fuel actuator today and it hasn't sputtered yet. They mechanic says he is very confident that was the problem. My only question is what does the fuel actuator actually do. Does it control the amount of fuel coming from the injection pump into the rail (by the way it's an 03).

The "motor vac" did not correct mine. Still sputtering. Where is the fuel actuator? I guess I've wasted some money.

The way I understand it the fuel control actuator(FCA) is located on the injection pump. It controls how much fuel goes to the rail system. They guy changed it in about 1/2 hour. While I was there they also did a computer flash to update the computer. ddt111, how exactly does your sputter, because mine did it the worst after it would idle, for example at a drive thru or when sitting at red light.

Also, is the covered under the cummins 100k warranty.
I had the same problem and got a injector pump from the guy on ebay and when replaced I have a great running truck now, also the guy on ebay saved me $1200 over a dodge dealership!

My truck sputters when it idles. When I press the excellerator, the truck sputters but then once I get going it is fine. It doesn't matter where I am ie: drive thru, red light, parking lot. Occasionally it will sputter without pressing the excellerator. Today when I would stop at red light, I noticed the idle was fluctuating up and down. I forgot to look at the tach. Every morning the truck cranks fine, it idles, but when I press the excellerator, it stalls down. What does an FCA cost?

That sounds similar to what mine was doing. Sorry, I don't know how much the FCA costs because mine was under the 100k warranty. I should have asked.

I was quoted $2100. @ local dealership. Was informed that the FCA was only available with injector pump.

Not true. I actually watched the mechanic the entire he removed the old and installed the new. In fact I witnessed him pull the FCA from the Mopar box. I would guess they are trying to screw you over.
