spare ground on 99 5 spd ???

99 24 v 5 speed. 3500 Just found a ground wire probably coming out of the pdc in behind the PDC heading to the ABS system. does it attach to the bolt on the abs system ??? wire might be black or brown in colour. Does anyone also know what it is for ??? Could you look please. Thanks. ( wonder if it is for the grd to do with the engine??????? IS this the missing link. That might fix this truck ( junk).

I saw your other post, too. If the wire is black, and terminates on a junction that splits it to two wires that connect to terminal A31 and A32, it is a ground and should be grounded to the chassis on any clean connector. The controller for the full antilock is located in the left rear corner of the engine compartment, and has unitized wiring harness connector. The chassis ground is close enough to look like it may terminate on the ABS controller, but it normally does not. However, it would not hurt if it did, either.

If anything is erroring out on the antilock brakes, they will always default to standard brakes, and you will have a code. Any error code in the antilock will turn on the ABS warning light, and the ABS will not function at all. You need a DRB to read the brake codes properly. To try and do anything else is simply a waste of time and you will be just tossing parts at the process.

spare grd wire on 99

Forgot to mention that it is about #18 AWG. The ABS system seems to work properly and sets no codes, but the wire comes out of the wiring harness to the connector for the ABS. It looks like it grounds on the bolt for the PDC.

Mine has the same un-connected wire as well as several others I have checked. Never did figure out what it is and have left it that way. Sorry, no help here.

Yeah,,,, we went through this a while back. "The Mystery Wire"
It seems that we came to a conclusion that the trucks with 4-wheel ABS had the wire just laying around and not connected to anything. The rear-wheel-only ABS trucks had this wire connected to a ground. I'll search for the thread that I started when this came up before.
