Exclamation SBC 3600 DD install trouble

I can get the tranny all the way into the clutch and housig except the last 1/4" , what gives I replaced the input shaft with the required 1 3/8 and replaced the flywheel etc but no matter how many times I try I cannot get the tranny and bell housing to meet. suggestions..... the input shaft has to be engaged in the pilot bearing so what is holding this thing up?

my 3600 was the same way, the last tiny bit was a bugger. IIRC it went after lifting the rear of the tranny more and we kept moveing the trans up and down with forward pressure and it went. and the clutch fork is sitting pretty I presume?

pilot is installed in the flywheel from Sb, but I didi get it in but know I start it up with the clutch out it is quite running in all gears, clutch in rattles really bad and shifting is really tough and labouring, it is still on jack stands with the tranny jack under it I figured after the day I had I would try it first with no driveshafts etc.I can call peter in the am but it would be nice to figure this pig out, it does have a brand new hydro kit but which I have set abouthe middle I tried it all the way out and it still rattles, When you shut down the clutch rattles as well is that normal...

That rattle is exactly what mine does with the clutch disengaged. I believe its the nature of the twin disk. I also installed the short shift at the same time so mine turned notchy after. 1st and reverse are sometimes difficult to hit.

OK I couldn't get the clutch to be quiet with the clutch engaged so I pulled it all back out to double check the fork was not reversed any it seemed to be fine, gave up for tonight Will call peter in the am I can't imagine people could deal witht he rattling of the DD, this is why I waited for the sprung version because I heard they where not loud...going to pour myself in bed

on a side note I messed asround with the hydro shaft and the best i can get is a obviuosly noticable rattle rattle with some ajustments it sounded like it was going to spit a dicsk out the housing...

Ya those are a bear to get in the last 1/4", just keep at it and all of a sudden it will jump in.
did you go with the upgrade HD hydraulics? They are very loud i have put in 2 Getblown5.9 & the one P.J won on here.
Call Peter from what i have heard he is top notch on customer support.

heh! yea it took dad and i a couple hours to slide mine back in the first time. i think we ended up takin a ratchet strap and hookin it on the transfer case and the front axle and pullin it into place.

but the 3 or 4 times ive had it down since then it stabbs back in easy.

Yes, the SBC DD will make noise with the clutch pedal pressed in...like a scraping/rattling sound. With the pedal out, there will be a rattle as well. Its the nature of the beast.

ya I finally got it actually I got it about 5-6 times, I kept pulling the tranny out to check why there was so much noise but I guess it is the clutch once I got the hydraulics set it isn't bad but the shiffts are slightly notchy I will wait and see after a couple tanks of diesel. I ended up taking the input shaft out of the tranny and lining it up so well it would slide in and out VERY easy. That is the trrick with the DD take the plastic input shaft out before you fully torque the clutch plate and put in the metal shaft the torque then pull it out and put it in several times to make sure you get very easy insert if it doesn't insert nice then back of the pressure plate and start again... after I figured out that it was as simple as a single disk. However I wouldn't do a clutch like that with out a very good tranny jack I am fortunate to have a really good one not just a top plate add-on on a regualr jack.

Should be on the road today just have to put back the last few things skid plates etc...

Thanks fellas
