Rebuilding pump tommorow,wich upgrades?
I'm bringing the truck in tommorow to have the ve pump rebuilt,I plan to build this rig to aprox 225 hp through the diferent modes spoken about on this forum.
I plan to ask the rebuilder to time the pump at 15* when he reinstalls it,Is there anything else I should ask for as far as how much he turns the pump up etc? I just cannot sacrifice fuel milage next stage is the 16cm housing.anybody got on in alberta? thanx 1992 d-250 4x4 club Bone stock..............so far. |
Turning the pump up is not hard to do yourself as long as you have the instrumentation to monitor what you are doing.
I know this is late, but there is a higher output pump available that used to be offered at most performance shops. I don't know if they have them around anymore. Getting to 225 Hp is not hard. Heck, with late timing (like 1°)and only moderate pump adjustments to my 93 I hit the rollers at 200 hp at the wheels. I never did do a good dyno run with the timing set and the rest of the modifications to the truck before I sold it.. D'oh.. What shop did you decide on? J-eh |
I decided on "Camrose diesel injection",I spoke to several local shops that use them, they sounded fine.....we'll see.
Ya figure 15* is o.k to have them set the pump timing?I dont want to stress this engine any,or comprimize the milage. I wish I had my instrimentation pod set up already just to see what the changes would be from current timing to 15*,but I need the truck, and the pump is shot,so I have to get it fixed now,and unfortunatly I'm to busy to get the guages and install them. later........john |
I hear ya on the busy front.. 15° sounds OK.. Having advanced timing alters your power a bit by giving you more top end power and skimming some of the low end torque, with standard settings.;) Once you get into setting the starwheel, AFC cone etc, you can take care of that low end problem pretty quick.. The upgrade to a 16cm is a good start. I ran a 12cm on mine and loved it.
If you need help with the gauges, I'm not far out.. J-eh |
Have them put in a 3200 RPM governor spring while they're in there.
