rear brake line

Shock broke on left rear of truck and broke the brake line that runs from the gizmo that measures the load you are carrying and adjusts the braking pressure. This is the flexable line that goes down to the axle. Looks to me like the block on the axle is welded to the axle housing. Will the dealer have this part and will I have to take a hacksaw to remove the little block that T's to both rear axle cylinders? This is on a 2001 2500 4x4 with rear drum brakes. Need to get the truck back on the road as quickly as possible. Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me.

I just looked under my '96 and the line is held in place by the vent fitting. It is like a bolt that has a hole in the middle that you can put a hose on. Yours should be similar. I would think that the line should be available from most auto parts retailers for less than dealer prices.
BTW, Welcome to the forums.

Thanks, never thought of that. How does the vent tube work? I looked in my factory service manual and can not find any real information on the entire system.

The vent tube is nothing more than a way for the pressure in the axle housing to equalize with the surrounding air. The hose usually goes up to a point under the bed to where there is a less likelihood of the vent pulling in any water when it cools off. If it does not equalize you will have seals leaking when the axle gets warm.
