Radiator petcock

Im doing a cooling system service on my 95. The radiator petcock is a 1/4 turn type. I found it in the vertical position which would seem to be the open spot. Either way I cant get it to flow. It the real closed position flat or "horizontal"? Id hate to have this thing decide to clear itsself out and blow everything out on the road. Please help soon!!! Gotta head for the outlaws soon. Uhhhh, I mean inlaws.
Thank You.

It tightens clockwise and is on a thread of plastic. So if it will not turn clockwise it is tight.

You can turn counter clockwise and pull at the same time, wiggling it around and it will come out completely.

There is an O ring on it that gets broken and needs replacing after a few years running when disturbed.

If you want to do it right, get a new O ring for it, from an assortment, or a 727 trans dipstick O ring, or from Mopar. Lube it well with white moly grease and it will stay movable.

Far as I know , when the "handle" is in the verticle position, it shout be open. Have you tried to poke a wire or something into the hole? Maybe try a little air? I wouldn't use 100psi, but try to see if that would work.
Good Luck,
Tom

Apache I just bought a nice new radiator at industrial radiator in santa maria. You probably know the place. He could just solder a new drain **** on for you if you continue to have problems.

Soldering to plastic is not really perfected yet...

There is no problem anyway, just pull it out, replace the o ring, and grease it up with waterproof grease. Good as new, actually better.
