power pulsation
Re:power pulsation
Fletch, Thats awesome dude! In the Navy we say that a good visual inspection usually finds the problem. Overheated wires or other electrical components are sometimes hard to find and is the primary reason for my lack of sanity. I am constantly walking around in my I LOVE JACKET wondering just why I have to chase my tale so much. Craig I admire you and your persistance, reminds me of me!
The heat you are referring to was the very same heat that I was referring too. Heck maybe one day I'll look up my temperature cooefficient tables and post them for everyone. If the administartors wanted or would allow me too. I may even get a little electrical section going and put all kinds of neat little formulas and nifty little tricks of my trade. Of course in electricity and electronics, HUMBLE is a word I know only to well. It never fails, just when I think I can fix anything wrong with my gear. It will break down in a new way and send me searching for answers that take some doing to find. I have even learned something while working on this problem with flecth and all the others that had an input. I am hard headed, stubborn and sometimes petty. Sorry for steeping on anyones toes over this and I hope we can all get along anyway.

slighfox, can you still say the resistor code, I'm referring to the we we learned it back in school. It starts with Bad Boys,BBROYGBVGW. but the admin. would bleep the rest out if I typed it.

I sure can and they have made a politically correct version. Bad Boy Race Our Young Girls Behind Victory Garden Wall Get Some Now. Sally Can Tell Oscar Has A Hat On Now. Takes yuh back DOn't it?

Here's my .2 cents disconnect battery while truck is running see what happens.

No one commented on this. Disconnecting while running can do serious damage to the trucks electrical system. Without a battery to ballast the altinator it can go up to 40 volts or so. It is also a good way to blow the diodes in the altinator.

Dixie, I didn't know that about these trucks and will definetly put that one in my keeper file. Thanks! ;D

Actually that is on any altinator system. Once I had a battery cable jump off on a Chrysler, took out everything electrical that was on. What a pain replacing all those dash bulbs. Thank goodness that was before computers.

Re:power pulsation
Hello I have this problem on a 2000 4x4 2500 Desiel. My headlight intensity pulsates in sync with my motor at idle. In other words the motor at idle increases and decreases just a few RPM's wich is noticable. My lights(all lights) are in sync with this rpm delta. It is not heat related. For starters I could look at the accesory power lead.
Where is the accesory power lead located?
Thanks

Someone throw a wrench at me but to me, that sounds like the altinator is right at the edge of gaining full output and the motor pulsating makes the lights go up and down. I would check that the altinator is putting out properly.

Re:power pulsation
Now it's my turn to be frustrated. My 92 W250 is doing the exact same thing (ie driving me crazy)... Of course I only see my truck when it's dark nowadays and while driving home from work today it was very noticable. I didn't bypass my ECM at all, but I did unplug my grid heater and it didn't help... I'll check everything that was mentioned and check back for more suggestions. By the way, I accidentally disconnected the power supply to the fuse panel and the truck immediately died...
Re:power pulsation
The problem I was having was only present after the truck was started. If I drove the truck and then left it idle with the lights "on" the lights would no longer pulse brighter / dimmer. I had the dealer check it out and they said this is normal...
