power loss 50-60 mph
power loss 50-60 mph
When I try to run a steady speed (50-60) if feels like the turbo shuts off and I have to pump the footfeet until it suddenly comes back to life, also it does the same thing at same RPM in other gears....Automatic trans..... changed lift pump...changed filter...no changes so far...maybe gettin worse....cutoff muffler....fixin to cut off resinator. :-[
whats this prob...

Re:power loss 50-60 mph
From the symptoms it sounds like you have a second generation 24 valve engine. Get a fuel pressure guage and verify that you never drop below 4 lbs at WOT under load. If that is good, then look at your injection pump.
If it is bad, check your filters and hoses to be sure you have no air leaks. Then check the lift pump, and make sure you have the updated lift pump.
Do not leap on a rebuilt injection pump from Dodge, shop around. There are some really good rebuilds on the market that are better than the new pumps ever were.

Re:power loss 50-60 mph
My truck seems to be doing the same thing. It mostly does it between 60 to 70, but can do it at any speed. I have so far chagned the MAP sensor (boost) and IAT sensor (Intake air temp) with no change at all. My fuel pressure holds steady at 10 psi before and when it looses power. I am not sure where to look next. Some have suggested the APPS (Accelorator Pedal Position Sensor), but it is a pricey part to throw at the problem without much confidence it will do anything.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Re:power loss 50-60 mph
Well folks I have tried Lift pump, APPS, noise isolation, freeing exhaust path, Resetting Computer half a dozen times, problem getting worse, blue smoke on cold startups, until about 160% temp is reached, still stumbles between 50 and 60 mph only if steady speed is maintained in this range (Auto Trans). Can power on thru that range... with no ill effects.
Trying IAT and MAP this weekend....
Its a shame that no one has come forward and can positively say they have cured this problem.....
Sorry but the noise fix is ********.... I ran less than .5 DB noise
before and .3 DB after Isolation.
Voltage prob seems to be off the wall...gotta new APPS,
Whats up with that....adjust a new APPS?
Sorry just sceptical..... allmost 1000.00 into it

Re:power loss 50-60 mph
Skipperl76, I have a perfectly good MAP sensor and IAT sensor from when I tried to fix my truck. At least they are not very expesnive.
Where do you live?
Does your truck have white smoke when you rev the engine in neutral and spit and sputter?
Can't a dealer do anything for you since your truck is an '01? Are you over the 100K warranty?
There are about 5 of us on here with the same problem and we all have not gotten anywhere except frustrated and poorer. We need to pull together and compare notes.

Re:power loss 50-60 mph
I was getting on here to write about the same thing, when I saw this listing. On my truck the RPMs stay at about 2k and the turbo guage shows 15 to 20 pounds of pressure but there is nothing there for power. If I downshift and ride it out it works itself out. It also has been running much hotter than normal. This is a 99 5 speed with the comp box and high flow fuel pump. I have taken the thermostat out to cool it off, but changes nothing and it happens with the comp turned all the way up or off, doesn't matter.

Yea I got the spit and sputter when I rev in park or Nuetral.
It smokes light blue when it sputters. I have been over 100 K miles for about a month now. This happened at about 102K.
@ 120K now. I noticed that it acts up alot more in Hot weather.

skipperl76, one important thing you have not told us yet. What is your fuel pressure at idle, at WOT and when you are experiencing the problem.
Re:power loss 50-60 mph
posted similar problems and currently going through all the sensors, filters and such. I hate to say this but the ECM, PCM or the injection pumps are my next steps. I will do several continuity checks to verify my harness before going to the expensive components listed above. I am bewildered and even looked for a mystery resistor, like in some gassers. The resistor used to heat up and lose it's resistance. You'd lose speed control until it cooled off. Threw that idea out the window after buying a haynes manual but the thought still haunts me. Good luck everyone and hope we can figure this out for Dodge. We should be getting a commission for all the help we give them. Sounds like a window 95 thing. Give it to the public all messed up and fix the problems as the customer tells us about it. Ofr course Dodge has decided in some cases that warranty work is cheaper than just putting out better equipment. We are the only ones inconvienenced anyway, right? ???
Re:power loss 50-60 mph
My truck is doing the same thing.Gauge readings are at 14 psi at idle and no less than 8 psi at wot.It sounds like it may be the injection pump.Just a guess so far but i'll let yall know because i have a new injection pump setting in the floor i may be changing here in the next couple of day.
Re:power loss 50-60 mph
I am still strugling to fix my truck. I fear that it is the VP44, but do not want to spend that much yet. I will at least try to take it apart and see what failed before buying a new or rebuilt one.
