P0336 and P0125

1) I just got a Scanner from AutoZone and read my codes:

P0336 - Crankshaft Position Sensor A CKT Range/Perf
P0125 - Clsd Loop Fuel Ctrl Insufficient Coolant Temp

So can anyone offer some insight into what I should replace now? I am assuming that the P0125 is related to the issue of my Temperature guage not working properly as it always reads way to cold. If I need to change the Temp sensor where is it located?

2) How hard is it to change the fuel filter? Is this something I can do myself or should I get this done at a shop?

As you can tell this my first Diesel so I am just learning.

Thanks!!!

Wadel1,

The 0336 points to a communication error between the ECM and the CKP. Replace the CKP and it will got away. Not a pretty project, but easily done in about an half hour without any issues. I had issues and mine took about 6 hours.

If you need any further help send me a PM.

The 336 code may be caused by bad connection. Try cleaning the connectors and reinstalling with dielectric grease before replacing the sensor. I was getting the 336 code and that curred mine.

Location what? Of the CKP? It is under the fuel filter canister, just above the starter. The factory service manual simply states to remove both negatives from the batteries, remove the starter (3, 10mm, 12 point bolts), disconnect the CKP plug and remove the CKP from the block. Replace just the opposite.

If only it were that easy. Once you get to the CKP spray some JB Blaster on it, then take a scribe and scratch away around the ring. Some come right out while others are a serious project.

When I reached up to grab mine with my fingers the darn thing snapped in two! The receptacle in my hand and a goofy looking stub still in the block. Vice Grips, Channel Locks, slip joints, etc were no help so guess where mine ended up? In the oil pan!!! There is a screen at the bottom of the pan and I have not had a single issue related to the location of the old CKP in over 40K miles. Some day I'll get around to taking it out, but not until I need to drop the pan for something else.
