My check-engine light is coming on intermittingly and when on the code P0238 can be downloaded. Description for P0238 is high voltage for boost pressure sensor but neither Autozone, Pep Boys and Advance list the part. When check-engine light is on truck is very sluggish, it will get up to speed but does so very slowly.

Anybody have experience with this problem? Is the the boost pressure sensor a Dodge/Cummins only part? Where is it located and is it hard to replace? Could this be an erroneous code and I have other problem(s)?

The map(boost) sensor is located just behind the fuel filter in the side of the intake, the rearmost sensor is the AIT the one foward of that one is the MAP, as far as I know it is a OEM dodge part.

Thanks for the very helpful information. Cummins South in Atlanta has the part in stock for $49.88. The MAP part number for my engine is 3348747NX. My truck is 1999 2500 24-valve with 5-speed.

 

Right next to it is the IAT, at a minimum, remove it and clean it. YOu will find it all gunked up with oil caking on.

 

Just for grins I called the local Dodge ***********. Dodge sells the part for $96.70, approximately twice the Cummins price of $49.88.

 

Were you advising to remove and clean the IAT also? What's the function of the IAT?

 

IAT measures the Intake Air Temperature. Does a lot of control mixture etc. Should be on a regular schedule to pull it and clean it. Brake cleaner works well. After a couple hundred thou miles I replaced mine just gp.

If you problems are not fixed by the sensor from Cummins, look at the wastegate on the turbo and look for possible leaks in the intercooler system. I was wondering which came first, the chicken or the egg... ie the power loss or the code set. If there was a pressure problem then the sensor reading properly would signal the ECM to cut power, that is what it is there for. The IAT measures intake temperature, more fuel cold, less hot, etc.

 

Replacing the MAP sensor (boost pressure) gauge cured my Ram's ills. Thanks for all the great and accurate advice and help to those who shared their knowledge. MAP sensor at Cummins was under $50.00 and the only tools needed were a rachet and 1-1/4'' socket. Total time to replace was about 10 minutes.
