obd self test

anybody know if there's a way to check codes on an (04) 1500 hemi ram without a scanner? thanks

Did you try the 3 key switch thing? With the motor off, you turn the key switch from off to run 3 times than leave key on run position and than the odometer should flash any codes .

i tried talking a friend of mine through it but he said it doesn't work. i don't know if he's doing it right or not.

when i do mine i also have to hold the odmeter / trip meter button in till the test starts or it doesnt work ?

I tried the key trick on a 04 hemi and it worked. Also when I held in the odometer and turned the key on it did that test as well forget what it is called but all the gauges and lights come in the cluster and it checks for different codes than the key trick.
The tests worked just like in my truck except the hour meter. The key trick even works on my wifes 02 mini van.
