New Steering Box

I am going to install a new steering box and steering stabilizer tonight. Is there anything special I need to know with installation?

Thanks....

Also on the steering rag joint where the steering box bolts to the steering shaft I can see one bolt. Is there more than one bolt? How does the rag joint seperate?

One bolt. The "u joint" is splined on to the box. Put a bungee cord on the steering wheel. That will insure that you don't "scramble" you're clock spring.

And now after the install it will not turn??? Well it will turn but it is like turning a Mack truck with no power steering? What did I do wrong?!?!?!?!?

This is NOT a Factory Service Manual procedure, but it worked on every other P/S unit I've ever worked on: make sure the P/S fluid is topped up and then turn the wheel all the way to lock on one side, hold for a moment, and then turn to other side to lock and hold, back and forth a few times. This bleeds air out of the P/S pump assembly and lines. Re-check fluid to make sure it's topped up.

Before doing this visually inspect your work again to make sure there's no humbug kind of thing you missed that prevents steering from functioning properly. You can bleed the steering as suggested with the front end jacked up so you don't mine for minerals with your front tires too!

steering box

Thanks Jimmie. Well after my truck was parked over night the system work fined this morning. I had to top off the power steering fluid and it now works excellent.
