A new problem with fuel system???
Dragging my 8000# travel trailer to deer lease yesterday, tooling along at 60mph, no severe grades, good oil pressure and normal coolant temp, the beast started making a hellacious knocking sound. Pulled over, shut off truck, checked oil, checked coolant and nothing out of the norm. Started truck back up and listened closely to knock and it sounds as though it is coming from top of block. My guess is that I have a clogged or sticking injector. Must be clogged shut because it is not dumping fuel to crankcase. It has not affected operation, power or fuel consumption (I drove it 150 miles back from lease last night). Anyone want to chime in if this has happened to them?? Guess it is time to
No fuel would result in a rough running engine, similar to a "dead hole", with no noise. Excessive fuel could possibly cause this. Have you returned it to stock to see if the EZ is by chance causing something? (doubtful) Assuming it's still knocking.....with engine running remove the oil fill cap and hope that it doesn't look like puff the magic dragon. Not seeing it the first thing that comes to mind is a melted #6. (again I stress "not seeing it")
been through this twice. thank goodness for the extended warranty. i was told the #6 oiler clogged and the piston cooked it self. it souned like someone was banging on a big piece of steel with a big hammer.
Well, I'm still driving it with no symptoms other than the knock. Spoke to my local diesel mechanic and he said to take temps at exhaust manifold at each cylinder. Temps ran about 270-275 for each cylinder except for #3 which was running 240-245. Mechanic said that he thinks injector is partially blocked closed and is not fueling properly. I have lost no power (noticeable anyway), still have no fuel smell in crankcase, and I have a small amount of smoke coming out of oil filler opening when I remove cap. I guess that it is time to look for a set of RV275's to replace the stock injectors......

J-Body,
It's not really "smoking" in the typical sense. It's more like a light vapor rising out of the valve cover. I checked it while it was fairly cool outside (55 degrees for here is cool). It really didn't puff at all. It was more just like a light mist seeping from the valve cover. You couldn't really see it unless you shined a flashlight over the filler opening. I didn't think it was anything out of normal. It actually looked like the vapor that emits from the puke bottle tube (since my puke bottle dissappeared a while back).
Thanks for the continued response.
