Unhappy Need Wiring Diagram Fast

Due to my "not so smartness" I was putting some screws in a piece of rubber stripping that keeps falling off above the fire wall on my 00' 2500 CTD. Pre-drilling was needed so I pre-drilled right into the wiring harness below it cutting into 5 wires. It wouldn't start and relays were buzzing. I pulled the wires apart, made sure nothing was split in two and taped them up. It started fine and ran good 10 miles to home. I thought it was ok. I went to start it this morning and the engine turns over but won't start. The pre-heater light won't come on and a large relay labled "ASD" or "ADS" under is buzzing. (Does anybody know what that relay is for?) Another question- I am in need of a wiring diagram. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

ASD relay controls the transfer pump and the charging circuit. Wiring diagram is in the service manual, also some of it is in the Haynes manual from a parts house. You may have shorted out he PCM.

A trigger feed from the PCM turns on the ASD relay, the output goes back to the PCM where the output is used to power the charging circuit and the transfer pump circuit.

I was afraid of the PCM issue. I'll bet that's not cheap. Is this service manual with my owners manual or is this somthing the dealers have?

Thanks!

Service manual is about $100, can't work on one right without it. Do not have a web site right off but cheapest is to get it on internet. Dealer does have one, cost more.

On the '99 the ASD output is a #12 wire and is dark green with a orange stripe. First I would check to see if the ASD relay has power, than check that the green wire has the ASD power which is the same sequence as the lift pump wire, ie on for about two seconds with the key, bump the starter and on for a longer time. Running it is always on.

Yeah PCM is expensive unless you can find one in junk yard. Must be same year, same transmission (manual or auto)

Diamler-Chrysler does provide online access to Service Manuals online for a charge. $20.00/24 hours requires a credit card and your VIN number. It is not easy to use but after you learn how to navigate it, it's well worth it. You can download or print every schematic in the wiring tab if you chose. Here is the link:

Good luck and if we can help...

I checked the ASD wire, (green w/ orange stripe) comes up to 6 - 7 volts and stays on with the continuous buzzing from the ASD relay. I traced some of the wires I poked, they go right into the ASD relay. I pulled the fuse / relay box apart and checked underneath to see. I think I let some smoke out of the PCM. Any idea's on cost?

Thanks for the ideas and comments, I'll keep you posted on the results.

Regards

I don't think you fried your computer, especially if the key was off when the wires got damaged. Look through the damaged harness again, to see if you missed something. Once you get a diagram, you can check right at the auto shutdown relay to see if each terminal has its appropriate power or ground. You can also try a jumper wire if you feel brave. This may be a stupid question, but did you check fuses?

If the ASD relay is buzzing and the fuses are all good and the realay is good, checking the trigger feed from the PCM is all there is left. If it is solid to the PCM, than it has to be in the pcm or another feed to the PCM. I wonder if the main 12v is reaching the PCM. He said it right, get into the harness and really chack it out. It is easy to retape the harness, cut it open and really check it out. Just don't cut any more wires opening it up

Sorry for the delayed follow up to my problems. After a week at the dealer and $891.97 later my truck is back running. I was the talk of place for a couple of days. I am now known as "the guy that drilled into his wires".

$405.72 for a new PCM
$5.12 for a fuse
$434.50 for labor

If anybody has a piece of rubber falling off your firewall just leave it alone.

Thanks for all of the input.

Casey

I've got a piece of rubber falling off my firewall. I just choose to use some epoxy to stick it up there instead of screws.

I tried it that way first, that lasted for about 5 months until it got cold.

Use some 3M weatherstrip adhesive... it's made to stick rubber to metal.
