been having an on going miss with truck for 50K kms. I have just had my DDP sticks retiped and checked by DDP, installed reman Cp3 by II also installed new connector tubes when the injectors went in. Also reset and checked valve train and its good all adjusters/jam nuts at same levels. None of this changed the miss. It is also sluggish when under part throttle acceleration. Not crisp like it used to be. Seems when it hits drive and converter locks the tone changes and pulls decent. Had it in to dealer and cause it tosses no codes "there is nothing wrong it's normal" [verymad] . Had it rescanned yesterday and it has no codes and everything electronic looks good ( Scan done by a diesel shop not dealer parts changers). Picked up a temp reading gun and found one cylinder exhaust hotter ?

At idle in drive : 1) 246 2) 260 3) 260 4) 270 5) 335 6) 280 EGT read 437 on edge display after I got home

next morning at work in park 1) 220 2) 230 3) 230 4) 230 5) 240 6) 220 EGT showed 260
The put in drive with E-brake 1) 220 2) 235 3) 235 4) 240 5)286 6) 245
air temps at time were about 5F/-18C

burns no oil, no excessive blow-by and no change in coolant lvl

Guy at diesel shop even agreed ya can hear and feel a difference in the exhaust and the truck vibrates as well. I'm gonna take valve cover off and see if I can see anything with the springs, valves and rockers and they suggested moving that injector to a different hole and see if heat follows it, I don't think it will this problem was present before new tips and retest of injectors. So any one have any ideas what would cause 1 cylinder to run hotter than the rest? Sorry for the long post and reading but this is starting to drive me nuts [tapdshut]

I'm not too sharp on the CR engine but my next move would be to swap the ECM with one known to be good and see what happens.

temps look to be pretty normal to me, they will not be exactly alike on any engine

And smoke at start up or idle?

engine ECM was changed out do to fried fuel gauge circuit and problem persisted through the ECM change.

Temp difference is normal but its the elevated temp on #5 compared to the rest, it's about 17% hotter than the other 5.

No abnormal smoke at start-up, there is some but at -25C I would expect some just a little haze at start-up then goes away. I have noticed when idling warm the exhaust has a harsh eye burn to it like its cold even when warmed up.

May be take off turbo and exhaust manifold and start it up see which hole smokes. ????? Just an idea.

Have you run it without the edge? Still have problem?

have removed and sent to back twice for repair work do to random resetting. When it would reset it would drop all settings and hot unlock code aswell. Was repaired/replaced, they were very good to deal with. I am going to remove and try agian just to make sure :cool:

Everything looks pretty normal except for the 5 hole that looks like the injector is sticking open slightly. I suspect the thing to do is swap that injector into another hole as you said you were going to do and see if the heat pattern follows it, that will narrow it down to either the injector or a mechanical problem.

thats the plan to move injector and see if heat follows it, picked up some new washers yesterday. I'm thinkin it's a mechanical issue because it has been persistant through the injector recheck and new nozzles, the injectors have been in for only about 1k Km. Just not sure what kinda mechanical issue would cause one hole to be hotter under load. thanks for the suggestions I'm running outta ideas and getting close to pullin the head or my hair out and there is not much of that left :(

You said that it seemed sluggish at times? Could this be a timing issue?

Happy Newyear all. Well last night pulled #5,4,1 injectors and no problems realy jumped out at me. Looked at valves no broken, stuck or wobly valves. injectors #1&4 had lumpy carbon deposits on them and #5 definatly had less deposit on it. Gonna move #5 next door to #4 hole and then move the #5-6 wire loom to #1-2 just cause its easy to do and rule out one more thing even though no codes were showing. Also looked at the valve adjusters and all are at the same level so that should rule out a toasted cam lobe. Then had a shower and got out to find out the hot water tank at the house we're gonna sell sprung a leak and water all over the basement. So Happy frickin newyear :( . When I get truck to gether today also gonna test PRV valve cause DDP said when looking at old nozzles they looked like I was running high rail pressure, I dont have a pressure box and I dont run my Edge on the higher levels just 2-3 so pressures shouldn't have been that high. So maybe railsensor is reading lower than actual and blew the PRV? Well later all back to back to skinnin knuckles and teachin kids new words [tapdshut]

I vote for a sticky injector. They usually don't thorw codes. But you might do a search for a TSB before you do all that work. I have a guy with a miss and lots of white smoke till it warmed up. A quick flash and the prob went away.
Worth the time to look anyway.

Got truck all back together yesterday and can rule out injector and wire loom. Move #5 stick to #4 hole and heat didn't follow the stick and no change on #1-2 with wire loom from #5-6. retorqued connector tubes, injectors, fuel lines and reset valve train. Removed Edge for the time being just have it hooked up to data port so I can use it as a data source. Rail pressure seems to be higher and more steady have to check PRV yet to make sure its not leaking. Seems to be running better alittle smoother gonna run it for acouple days and see. The only thing I found was when I pulled #5 stick there was a couple black (looks like carbon) deposits that were flattened on the copper washer, maybe didn't seal properly? The outside of the nozzle on #5 had some staining and thats it but #1&4 had staining and pieces of carbon/soot stuck to the sides of the nozzles but tips were clear of any pieces just colored black. Did a quick temp check after short drive and #5 stayed at around 330ish but #1,2,3 and 4 increased to 275ish and #6 was around 285ish. Maybe I'm to soft on the skinny peddle and have to run the truck harder :cool:
