hey guys i just got off the phone with the dealership they told me that the Injection pump, transfer pump, and the accelerator pump position sensor are faulty. they told me that they could not pin point the problem because the truck wont turn on but the tested those things and they tested bad. My question is can all three things go bad? should i trust them and pay $4,000 and get all three things fix and hope that, that is the problem.

Possible.....yes. Probable.......no. Most likely injection pump. Could have been caused by running with a dead lift pump over time. Did you get a listing of what codes were stored?

I mean that the dealership's service department that diagnosed your truck doesn't exactly exude an overwhelming sense of confidence in their knowledge of diesel Rams.
It's quite plausible that a dead lift pump would take out the VP44 sooner than later, but the APPS is also faulty and they "could not pinpoint the problem"?
Sounds like the dealership is taking something of a shot in the dark, using your money to load the shotgun.
I would definitely make certain those parts are bad before having them replaced!

TexMex, when I had problems with my 01, the Cummins dealer not Dodge dealer pulled the codes and told me the lift pump went out and that it may have caused the VP44 to go out but they would not know until the lift pump was changed out. They changed the lift pump and the truck has been running fine ever since, that was over a year ago.

so if i change the lift pump it MIGHT work? I found a lift pump for about $200 and if I can fix that that would be better then $4000. i'll look in to changing that first thanks man.

This is the story, correct me if I'm wrong. The VP44 is lubricated by the diesel fuel, the lift pump (LP) supplies the diesel to the VP44. When the LP fails the VP44 is not lubricated, this is what causes VP44 failure. So assuming you haven't tried to run it after LP failure it is possible that a LP replacement will correct your problem.
