Unhappy my truck shut off on me

Help please for the second time. Yesterday I was driving and I noticed that the truck did not want to jump to over drive so I was thinking that it was the brake switch like many you have told me so I was hitting the brake peddle and nothing. well I shut it off like before and I don’t know if it worked or not because we were in town for a while but then I was about to get on the interstate and I floored it and then it shut off nothing I pulled over and it would not start it would crank and turn over but nothing, we (my friends and I) could never hear the pump kick in. I checked the fuses they all seemed good. So my question what could it be? How can I find out if it is the pump has anybody dealt with something like this?

When my 01 lift pump went out it was sputtering then died and would not start. My 02 is out of state and I am waiting to hear from the repair shop this morning, I was driving down the interstate and it just shut off as you describe yours did. They said they would call before noon to let me know what the problem is. I will post that info.

My 01 was the lift pump which the local Cummins dealer changed out. My 02 has the converted fuel pump in the tank so I don't know what that is going to be.
The 02 I was passing a vehicle going up a slight grade under full acceleration then "pow" loss of power, RPM's dropped to 1200 then engine died.

To still be running a 24 valve without a fuel pressure gauge should be a criminal offense.

Check your fuel pressure from the output side of the filter, and that will narrow down the problem.

Know where the Injection pump is?
theres a scrader valve (like a tire valve) on the in line.
You can get a pressure guage at Kragen, needs to have pressure there.
Better yet install a pressure guage.

Just got off the phone with them. The power wire from the battery to the in tank fuel pump was loose. They are replacing the battery ends and that wire, will be ready tomorrow at noon.

One quick question on fuel gauges, will a 1-15 PSI be enough or do I need a 1-30 PSI?

30psi guage would be best, then normal pressure will be right in the middle.

15psi guage would be pegged all the time with a good lift pump.

Heres my FP guage setup, just to give you an idea.

Heres where it taps for the pressure reading, right at the VP44 inlet.
