get a temp. gun and check the temp at each cyl. at the exhaust manifold. the one that is the coldest is your bad injector.

Roger that Bill.

Would a failed injector sound this LOUD though ??? Sounds like a mechanical type of rapping.

Should I go ahead and pull the valve covers off now and inspect the springs/valves or just pull the injectors and have them all tested ???

You will find Lacquer thinner will do a much better job of that sort than any gasoline. (as far as soaking parts )

I think you misunderstood. The process was not to soak the injectors in gasoline (with Techroline), but in Techron which is a fuel additive for those that don't buy their fuel from Chevron stations and want the fuel system cleaning power that it offers.

How does lacquer (have some already) compare to the Techron additive for cleaning/soaking injectors ?

Most diesel shops use an ultrasonic cleaner similar to those used to clean jewelry.

It takes 5 minutes to pull the valve covers and unless the gaskets and o-rings are shot about the same amount of time to reinstall them. Removing the injectors takes much longer and requires new copper gaskets and horseshoe gaskets. I can't believe you have screwed around this long and haven't pulled the covers.

Pull the valve covers off, like mentioned before. Start with the easy things first, then move to the harder, more time consuming things.

I have one of those at work (Medical Lab). I wonder if they'll mind if I put dirty fuel injectors in it.

The truck is down but I'm not (have other vehicles to drive). I have a LOT of other higher priorities breathing down my neck right now to handle.

Thanks for your input.

If your injector took a dive, consider it dove and no soak, nor no propaganda like chevron BS will fix it or any other snake oil.
Just lacquer thinner is far superior to any thing else on the planet for getting gumm gum out...go proooove it to your self , no neeed to argue here and you will smile knowing this board LEARNED YOU SOMETHING !!

I just got done pulling the valve covers and found NO evidence of mechanical failure.

Everything appears to be OK. The undersides of the valve covers show no markings of something hitting them.
