Steering

Help? I have a 2002 Dodge quadcab 4x4 cummins.I am having problems with the steering. When you come to a stop you cant turn the stearing wheel.it has been in the shop 3 or 4 times for this problem and they have changed the steering box, power stearing pump, steering shaft, and the tie rod end on pitman arm, and it still does it. Dodge corperation says they want to get together with the dodge dealer to see if they can figure it out. I dont know of any TSB on this problem? the local dodge dealer is now trying to say that this is normal for it,yah right. I have been a Dodge man for 35 years and will allways be one but this problem is getting bad.I also have had 5 stereos put in it.I also have a 1987 Dodge Ramcharger,1989 Lincoln towncar,1992 379 Peterbilt, and can turn the steering wheel with one finger in all of them.if anybody knows of a cure please let me know.THANKS Ghostrider

Re:Steering

As much as I hate to say it... the new 4x4's all seem to have this steering problem, if not, most seem to. It's not the first time I've seen or heard a problem with the steering on a new 4x4. It doesn't do it on the 2wd's. I don't know what it is but there's no need to have the dealer play "guess a part and win" till it's fixed... I'd just try and find it myself and tell them next time it goes in exactly what the problem is. Although, since the problem in prolly in the parts, replacing it with another just as bad faulty part isn't going to help.

Re:Steering

Do the new trucks use a hydraulic brake booster, or do they still have a vacuum brake booster?

If it is hydraulic, then you could be losing all of your pressure to the brake booster with nothing left for steering assist . . .

Just a thought.
