idling and bk. smoke

I have a 96 Dodge 2500 SLT with a Banks Kit. My truck has 12000 k miles on it . It runs great when the AC is off, but when I'am at a stop light it will stall. Also When I'am going about 55mph and boost comes on it smokes never did untill now. Anybody have any clues

Stalling is likely caused from idle rpm being too low. Idle rpm should be 750-800 for auto tranny in drive and a/c on. A manual tranny in neutral and a/c on should be 780. <br><br>Smoking may be caused from fueling without sufficient air to support the burn until the turbo spools up. Running along level at 55 carries low boost. Your AFC tension may have been backed off to allow greater fueling before boost buildup/turbo spool up. I am assuming smoke started after the Banks upgrade. You could try tightening the afc tension for smoke control. However, it will reduce your low boost throttle response. <br><br>Before doing anything, you may wish to contact the Banks Kit installer and see what they say about the smoke and it's relationship to the upgrade. <br><br>Jerry <br><br>

If your turbo is spooling up and you still smoke badly, check all your hose connections to the intercooler to be sure they are in good shape.<br><br>Your problem could be with the AFC as the previous writer stated, or could be low turbo pressure from a worn turbo (unlikely at that low of mileage, unless you have been running it above 26 lbs), loose pressure hoses, dirty or plugged air cleaner, or cracks in the intercooler. It could also be the fuel cam plate has come loose and slid forward, but you would normally see a bunch of new EGT heat associated with that problem and it would happen all of a sudden. <br><br>Remember black smoke is good, it means the problem is simple - too much fuel or not enough air.
