Re:Malicious damage

Thanks. Actually, when I have firm dates and a rough idea of my plan of action I was thinking of posting it and maybe meeting as many of the guys that hang out on this site as possible. When I go I will be taking my wife and making it into a vacation without a firm date to get back.

Re:Malicious damage

Mexstan, just spent two wonderful weeks in Guayabitos and can't wait to go back some time. Too bad T.O. isn't closer to Edmonton. Have a great trip north, and I'd gladly make the trip back with paint if work permitted! Buenos tardes.

Reminiscing Ken

Re:Malicious damage

Converteddzlr, sorry must admit I do not know where Guayabitos is. Asked a Mexican and even looked on my Mexican road map. It is not listed. So enlighten me, where is it? Sounds like a beach. Whereever it is, being in Mexico it probably is very nice. Specially at this time of year for those from Edmonton and other parts of Canada just emerging from the latest ice age.
Goldenears, I know where Manzanillo is. Have spent time there and until a couple of years ago lived about a two hour drive inland from there. Yes, it is a beautiful place.
I spend time in Acapulca occasionally but really want to go back to Cancun. To me, the nicest side of Mexico is the Carribean side. Nicer water and white sand. However, so far all the beaches I have seen here are nice. Next trip will probably be to Veracruz which is a 6-7 hour drive from my house.
I love the coast and the beach having grown up on the Indian Ocean. The only thing I don't enjoy is the high humidity on the coast
Hey, how did this thread go from paint to Mexican tourist?

Mexstan,
If you come up through the central or coastal part of NC please let me or Jack know and we can see about throwing out the welcome mat for ya'.

There are a fair number of DTR'ers in the eastern NC and southeastern VA area that we could probably scare a few together to meet-n-greet if you have time and the timing is right.

There are also a few in the western NC/SW Virginia area. Just stay away from the I-77 corridor through West Virginia - that's where Top lurks. ;D

Re:Malicious damage

Dare I ask what happens if Top catches me? : Know about Virginia!!!! In the early 70's drove thru from New Brunswick heading south. Got a ticket for speeding in Virginia. Sent in my cheque to pay for it and forgot about it. In 1998 had to get a Washington state drivers licence. They would not issue the licence until I paid the speeding ticket again!!!! Needless to say, after all that time I had thrown away my old bank statements, cheque stubs etc. Could not prove I paid it. So is that the type of thing (or worse) I can expect if Top catches me? ???
Thanks for the invite, it is much appreciated. Will let you know when I have a plan of action, dates etc.

Guayabitos is about a 60 minute drive north of Puerto Vallarta along the coast, in Nayarit province. Nice friendly little place as long as you're not looking for anything fancy! We'll be back 8)

Re:Malicious damage

If you put some touch up paint on there, and it matches good, you may be able to buff it in and get it to the point where you're the only one who can see it. Use the paint code for matching. You could also, CAREFULLY, with some fine sand paper, about 180 grit, sand along the scratch before applying the touchup paint to help it feather in better. Try to stay right on the scratch, no more than 1/8" on either side. This will be helpful when you buff it as it will feather in to the surrounding paint.

I did some touch up on my white truck and no one else can see it except me, because they don't know what they are looking for. After a while you'll forget about it too and won't be able to see it anymore.

Chris

Re:Malicious damage

Update. Got the Dodge touch up paint and have tried to hide the scratch. Everything I do seems to make it look worse. This scratch is about 3/4 the width of the front door and is very narrow. Tried to use a very fine brush to cover the scratch but it just highlights it. Tried to fill in the scratch and then shave the semi dried paint but it pulls it out of the scratch. By the way, I did wash the door first and then cleaned out the scratch first using lacquer thinners.
Any expert opinions out there as to what else I can try? In all honesty, the scratch does not catch the eye that easily but it sure catches mine because I know it is there.
I know I could blend it out with a fine abrasive polish but that means that I have to go thru the clearcoat and don't want to do that. Tried to find one of those supposedly matching color waxes but can't find anything close to Almond. So what is the next step? Just live with it any wait until the next scratch and the next, in which case I will not feel so bad?

Re:Malicious damage

Mexstan, sorry to hear you having trouble gettin baby pretty. i understand. The only thing that will fix mine (black/silver) is new paint. I tried some of those "colored waxes" with little satisfaction. It seemed to cover, but when the sun was shining on it, it really stood out. I posted earlier about buffing advise, but I think I am going to have get the paint job. Take care
Ed

Re:Malicious damage

Thanks Sherod. Guess I will live with it for now :'( :'(
In any case I am reluctant to try any wax or crayon fixes until all avenues are exhausted as I know from experience how hard it is to remove the wax from the bottom of a scratch later.
One consulation, the scratch is on the RH door so I don't see it until I open the door for my wife.

Re:Malicious damage

Mexstan, the way I've seen the "street rodders" fix stone chips, if down int the paint, they use a toothpick to put the color back over the primer, then they use a Q-tip and dab clear over and over until they build up the clear high enough to wet sand with 1500 grit, buff it out and you'll never see it.
