Lost Oil Pressure?
Hey there...this is my first post here, I've been lurking about for a couple months now learning as much as I can. I just picked up a 2001 2500 HO 4x4 with the 6 speed manual with 100,200 miles, I haven't done anything to it, but the previous owner had 4" exhaust put on and the muffler is missing. So, far so good...
Yesterday the check gauges like came on and that's when I noticed the oil pressure gauge wasn't reading anything. I immediately shut it down and parked on the side of the road to check it out. The oil level is good and it didn't appear to have been leaking out or anything. I did a search and it might just be the sending unit, but in most of the other cases, the sending unit seemed to have bounced around a bit, meaning it would show nothing and then show something again. Mine needle just dropped to zero and never came back up again. Any possibility that this is more than just a sending unit. |
I would say you've hit the nail on the head..... sending unit. Most likely you would have some other issues if things got bad enough to lose your oil psi.

Dido on the sending unit, mine did the same thing. The sending unit does not MEASURE pressure, it only tells the computer" Yep, we have pressure" the computer then calculates what the pressure 'should' be and sends the signal to the gauge. This is why I added the oil psi gauge in the pillar.
P.S. Get the sending unit from a Cummins dealer, NOT the Dodge dealer. |
Thanks for the quick replies guys, makes me feel a little better now.
