Angry Locks Gone Wild

Hi Folks,
Posting this for a friend
2005 Ram 3500 6 speed, Laramie 150K Kms

Dilemma: As the vehicle begins to move at about 25 km/hr, the locks click to close and then suddenly, the dome light turns on, it says DOOR AJAR and the locks click open/close. This continues to happen until the truck is shutoff.
It seems as if something is telling the automatic locking feature to lock as it is supposed to and then some demon is forcing it to open again, so they click like crazy. It's already driven us up the wall .
Scanned for codes: P0483 Cooling Fan Rationality Check Malfunction is the only one, i dont think this has anything to do with the locks
please help us.
Even if somebody can tell me how to disable this automatic locking feature, I will much much appreciate it.
As always, thank you very much for all the help i have received in the past and will get in the future

I did a quick glance through the 2005 manual. The door locks are controlled by the instrument cluster. The other stuff going nuts may be routed through there, too. I didn't have time to look.

I would look for a loose connector or ground associated with the cluster and hope that's it. If it's a bad module, it is probably in the cluster. The manual diagnostics have you replace the whole cluster if the locks fail the diagnostic. I doubt that it is cheap.

Sorry can't help you on disabling the locks. I know it can be done with the dealer's scan tool. If there is another way, I don't know what it is.

My power door locks got a mind of their own a while back as well, but I didn't get the dome light/door ajar. It drove me nuts. I took the doors apart and checked the wiring harnesses and things like that. Then I quit using the remote to lock the doors and it quit. I tried a different remote a few times since then and the problem didn't come back. I think it possibly could have been a dying battery in the remote. I just use the key instead of the remote and haven't had the doors locking and unlocking on their own since last summer.

Had that happen with my 2001 Durango, twice. You'd be driving along and the locks would start toggling. It was under warranty and they replaced all the lock cylinders 2 differant times. Locks were shorting or something.

Mine is doing the same thing, hence me on the site trying to figure out the problem.

Mine only does it when the stereo is on?????????? If I turn the stereo off then then it doesn't do it, the instant I turn on the stereo the dome light comes on, door ajar light comes on, power door locks unlock and lock repeatedly and the interior chime starts chirping.

its the Factory stereo, only started doing it after a long long road trip, I'm hoping a ground strap came loose or something.

I pulled the fuse under the hood that controlled the power door locks so they didn't burn out.

No experience with the problem but I had the autolock disabled by the dealer. It has to be done through the computer. Good luck!

Locks gone mad!!

2005 CTD with about 100k on it... My truck just started doing the same thing. Seems like there has to be a better fix then disabling the door locks through the computer.

Has anyone found a true fix for this yet?

Thanks,
Dave

I think I would start with the no-tech approach of changing the battery in the remote like jentas suggested. 05 -10 = 5yrs on the battery.

That's an easy approach... I'll give it a try tomorrow when I get back home.

Thanks,
Dave

So Far So Good

Unhooked the batteries about a week ago.....seems like the computer just needed to reset. All has been good for about a week now. Still running the factory batteries in the remotes.

Thanks,
Dave
