i think my GF blew up my truck.. well maybe lol

so im working out of town and my girlfriend had my dodge, well she was driving the truck and she said it started to stink really really bad in the truck like "paint thinner" lol . and right after that the truck starting running rough while she called me and the check engine light came on. I told her to imediatly pull in the Cosco parking lot right away and shut it off.

She got out of the truck and said that fluid was pouring out of the truck from left hand side of the truck and that it to smelt like paint thinner. so im wondering what went wrong. i know my atf fluid was overfilled a bit when i had the transmisson built at a local shop but i dont believe it would leak like that. so my guess right now is that a possible injector line cracked? ive never seen this happen so i cant say how much fluid would actually come out of the line i know the immense PSI that the fluid is under but still how much would actually come out. The kicker is that the truck will not start! it will turn over till the cows come home but it will not fire.

ANY IDEAS??? i would appreciate any help at all!! i need someone to calm my nerves a little bit regarding this lol.
if the motor is gone LET THE BUILD UP BEGIN!

Maybe just a really bad fuel leak...filter?...lift pump?...supply line?...hopefully she's just smelling good old diesel fuel, but to her smells like paint thinner! ;-) I'd be inclined to think bad fuel leak, especially if it doesn't start, good luck with it!

is the #4 line something that is replacable by someone whos mech inclined? or is it safer/easier to let the dealer do the install?
Lol i was a lil upset until she starting saying it smelt like paint thinner i started to laugh and felt a bit better.

my guess is the injector line because based on the story she gave me of the events leading to the trucks diesel bath, 9 pm she stopped at tim hortons for a sandwich and she thought she could smell the "paint thinner" so she called me. I asked if it was running smooth still and got her to check all the gauges ( triple pod ) eng temp, trans temp, etc and they were all in check. I told her to drive back home (10 min drive) and well within 2 minutes of calling her she called back and said the smell was gettin stronger and the truck wasnt running all that smooth, at about that time i heard a "bing" i asked what was that a her description was " the little motor thinger" is lit up i just told her to pull over and thats when the diesel soak / self destruct commenced haha.
Once she stopped crying thinking that i was going to blame her, i had a good friend stop and check that everything was ok. He informed me that it looked like ATF fluid which didnt make sense with the immense pool / river of fluid they were describing to have been leaking, not to mention the location of the leak.

Live and Learn ! not the end of the world
i'll be home in 4 days told have a look at it, are these lines difficult to see which one is leaking? im a little reluctant to get right in there to find the leak due to the PSI on the lines any tricks on diagnosing which line is the culprit?

If your truck is an '06 wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

A friend has an '05 and an injector gave up on a Fri. AM and he was leaving two days later (Sunday) for vacation. The dealer didn't know which injector was bad so they replaced all six.

Not with a Smarty and aftermarket injectors.

Original Post: Maybe it as Rich said, the #4 line broke. Mine did. And, yes it is something you can do easily only a couple of wrenches needed. This is just speculation of course, but if you need a #4 line, get it from Cummins, not Dodge Dealer, save you about 70 bucks. It should come with isolator also. Good Luck.

Kinda weird that the dealer couldnt do a leak down test or some how isolate the faulty injector in your friends cummins.

Haha yeah i doubt it will be covered under warranty. ive got roughly 130000kms on the truck i beleive the dodge warranty is up at 160000kms. I have to be honest on this one i cant really blame the truck. i would feel rather guilty trying to squeeze this under warranty seeing how i directly affected it with my mods. sometimes you gotta pay to play!

It was to his benefit, I guess. He got it to the dealer. Dealer had no parts. Friend asked if any nearby dealers had what they needed. He ended up going 80 miles south to get injectors and they installed them.

The dealer was REALLY surprised when he showed up about 1 1/2 hour later with their parts. I don't think they know he works at a heavy equipment dealer and they have a dealership in the other town and he had one of the service guys meet him half way.

I think he said it cost him $100. They didn't test much of anything, just replace all 6! Go figure?

well the Mrs went to cummins and picked up the #4 injection line and it was a wallet crushing $38.29 and it came with the isolator. I also found a unrelated leak of coolant, the Rubber hose about 5" long or so at the firewall where the coolant goes into the heating system (i believe) is all dried out and cracked and is weaping coolant out. So that will have to be fixed as well!
